INTRODUCTION

In 1978 MTS introduced one of the first mechanical estimating systems that utilized a digitizer.

In 1995 MTS started a new company, ScanBid whose goal it was to create the first mechanical estimating system based on the new low-cost scanner technology. ScanBid 2000 is the result of this effort. ScanBid 2000 only requires an inexpensive off-the-shelf scanner and color printer to complete one of the most advanced estimating systems ever developed.

With ScanBid you can:

  • Import blueprints as scanned bitmaps and trace over the piping, creating an estimate.
  • Import DWG (AutoCad) drawings and translate them into an estimate.
  • Use the power of Excel 97 for all the ‘what if’ conditions.
  • Convert your estimates to as-built drawings and down load them as DWG files.
  • Create visual line drawing assemblies and merge them with preview control.
  • Click on a pipe or fitting and change its size by simply changing its color.
  • Print a color line drawing of your estimate.
  • Generate by-product costs such as joint materials and hangers.
  • And MUCH, MUCH, MORE

ScanBid is a HEADS UP system. Nearly the entire estimating procedure is drawing the estimate using CAD. What’s more, because a line drawing is produced from the estimate nothing is left to chance.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To use ScanBid, DesignCAD PRO 2000 and EXCEL 97 for Windows 95 must be installed. You must also have, at a minimum, the following hardware, and software installed in your computer:

  • IBM-compatible PC with a Pentium 200 or higher.
  • 30 megabytes of available hard drive space.
  • 32 megabytes of RAM
  • Microsoft Windows 95 revision B or NT 4.0.
  • VGA or better color monitor.
  • VGA or better color graphics card.

Although not required for running ScanBid, the following hardware is highly recommended for better performance:

  • Pentium II processor, 266 Mh or faster.
  • 64 megabytes or more of RAM.
  • SuperVGA card capable of 256 or more colors, 4Mb ram or more.
  • SuperVGA 17” or bigger professional monitor capable of at least 1024 x 768 resolution.
  • Page Scaner, Logitech perfered.
  • Color 11 x 17 printer or plotter.
