A Brief History

by
David F. McPhaul

Harrison Publishing House traces its beginnings to a day in 1912 when William A. Bradford, masterplumber, first published the Bradford Price Book. The "Bradford" updated andwpe63.jpg (7729 bytes) expanded over the years, remains a popular choice among Harrison's customers. In fact there are third generation subscribers to the "Bradford."

William A. Bradford

In the 1960's, Harrison Publishing House introduced the National Mechanical Contractor Estimator, a book designed to meet the requirements of larger mechanical contractors. Shortly afterward, Harrison Publishing House introduced the MacEwan Market Manual, which is intended for wholesaler use and publishes discounts to wholesaler net for many products.

The 1970's saw the introduction of computerized data processing. Harrison Publishing House was the first publishing company to work on developing uniform codes, and used this foundation to build one of the industry's largest data bases.

Harrison Publishing House continued bringing appropriate books to market by offering the National Sales Guide in the 1980's, dedicated to the needs of the larger service contractors. In the 1990's Harrison Publishing House began publishing the National Plumbing and Mechanical Procurement Guide. The guide is intended for municipal bidding, has a simple format, and shows the manufacturers' list pricing.

During this period, Harrison Publishing House developed and marketed estimating and billing software. At the same time, we began working with other software developers, producing data bases to work with those programs, as well as custom data bases for more specialized applications.

About ten years ago, Harrison Publishing House began researching the needs of electrical contractors. One result of this study is our newest book, the Harrison Electrical Price and Labor Manual. This manual presents both buy and sell pricing with reliable labor units for thousands of commonly used electrical items.

A second outcome of this work,  TIP, or Trade Information and Pricing, is a true Windows price book and lookup package. TIP has been in development for three years and promises to be the tool that should solve all your product information needs for Electrical or Plumbing
